Discover your path to well-being

Welcome to Christine Gillespie, Psychotherapist, based in  Richmond, New Zealand. I offer a range of empathetic counselling services designed to support individuals, parents, and families on their journey to greater understanding and healing. Explore how my tailored approach can make a difference for you.

My specialised psychotherapy services

I provide a comprehensive suite of services tailored to meet diverse needs across all age groups. From nurturing the young minds of children and teenagers to guiding parents and supporting adults through complex life experiences, my goal is to offer thoughtful, compassionate, and helpful assistance.

Therapy for children & teenagers

I provide individual therapy for children and teenagers facing a range of challenges, including trauma histories, behavioural problems, difficulties with growing up, attachment issues, anxiety, and depression. My approach includes play therapy, creative therapies, and storytelling to help young people process their experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Parental support

I offer dedicated support for parents navigating the complexities of family life. This includes guidance for blended families, strategies for parenting children with behavioural problems, and support in understanding and managing parenting differences. I also utilise Parallel Parent Child Narrative Therapy (PPCN) to help parents and children overcome attachment insecurities, fostering healthier family dynamics.

Individual adult therapy

For adults across all life stages, I provide counselling for a wide array of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and family issues.  Additionally, I offer support for workplace issues through Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), leveraging a unique insight into workplace dynamics from a background as a trade union organiser.  I have an interest in working with anyone affected by another's addiction.

My particular approach to healing

What sets me apart? My commitment to empowering you.

I utilise psychoanalytic and psychodynamic talking therapy to help you understand your own processes, providing you with the experience of being listened to and listening to yourself, so you can become your own counsellor. A deep understanding of child development also informs my work, helping both parents and adults connect their past experiences to their present realities.

Understanding your journey

My professional services are rooted in a psychodynamic approach, which means we explore how your past experiences and unconscious patterns influence your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This helps you gain profound insights into your reactions and develop a greater capacity to navigate life's challenges independently. My expertise in child development also provides a unique lens through which to understand formative experiences.

And, if you only need a check in, then I am here to offer short-term, focused, practical support.

Making a positive difference

Clients who work with Christine often report a greater understanding of their own reactions and an increased capacity to counsel themselves, leading to lasting positive changes.

Parents may find it easier to foster their children's developing independence, or to put firm boundaries in place that contribute to greater family harmony.

For those who have experienced trauma, particularly sexually abused children, adolescents, and adults (working through ACC), a significant benefit can be experiencing less frequent and intense trauma symptoms, contributing to a more peaceful and empowered life.
